For more than 10 years, Jennifer L. Bergman has been a respected member of the legal community in Southeast Texas. Jennifer actively participates in civic and non-profit organizations in her hometown of Cleveland, Texas, and the surrounding area. She is an experienced litigator, prosecutor, and mediator and has tried numerous criminal, probate, family, property damage, and general civil cases during her years of practice.
Jennifer pursues a course of representation that clients find appealing as her straightforward, honest demeanor provides comfort and stability in times of chaos and stress. She is not afraid to aggressively and zealously represent her clients regardless of the opponent.
Her defense clients include numerous corporations and individuals involved in complex civil ligation as well as criminal matters. She has handled hundreds of lawsuits and claims involving diverse business disputes, personal injury matters, estate planning, family law matters, guardianships, probate matters, and personal and real estate disputes. Further, Jennifer has a very active appellate practice involving both civil and criminal appeals at the court of appeals level as well as the Court of Criminal Appeals and the Supreme Court of the State of Texas.
Jennifer is admitted to practice in all Texas State Courts, all U.S. District Courts in the State of Texas, and the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Tribal Court. Jennifer is a member of the Family Law and Tribal Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas and is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She is also active in her community and serves on the City Council for the City of Cleveland, Texas, and is involved with numerous boards affiliated within and outside the city. Additionally, Jennifer serves as a board member for the Health Center of Southeast Texas. Further, she is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, the Duck’s Unlimited Big Thicket Chapter, and First Baptist Church of Cleveland, Texas.
Jennifer is a lifelong resident of Cleveland having graduated from Cleveland High School in 2000. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Trinity University, in San Antonio in 2004. She earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 2008 and was admitted as a member of the State Bar of Texas in 2008.
Jennifer practiced law in Bexar County, Texas prior to returning to Cleveland in 2011 where she established the Law Office of Jennifer L. Bergman PLLC. In addition to her private practice, Jennifer has been the tribal prosecutor for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Tribal Court since 2015 assisting in the establishment of the criminal component of the tribal court system.
Jennifer, a fourth-generation Cleveland resident, is married to Zack Harkness, a member of the United States Coast Guard, a firefighter with the City of Cleveland Fire Department, and a deputy with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department. The couple has a set of twins – Hudson and Ella.
They both enjoy working on their family farm, hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling, and working at their apiary. Jennifer also enjoys reading, crafting, and outdoor activities. Jennifer and Zack are the proud owners of the Bergs and the Bees Wildflower Honey where they harvest and sell honey and diligently work to aid in the conservation of honeybees in Southeast Texas.
